Taman Sedia — Cameron's Original Malay Village
What Is Taman Sedia?
Taman Sedia — meaning The Garden Which Is Already There — is the oldest Malay settlement in Cameron Highlands, established in 1959. It sits between Tanah Rata and Brinchang along the main Route 59 corridor, making it easy to reach from either direction.
Unlike the commercial strips of Brinchang or the budget-traveller hub of Tanah Rata, Taman Sedia has retained genuine kampung character: family-run stalls, community orchards, small mosques and the kind of local rhythm that tourist zones rarely have.
Why Visit?
Visitors who take the time to stop here find an authentic highland community experience. Local food is affordable and genuinely Malay-style — nasi lemak, fried chicken, kuih and freshly brewed coffee served without tourist markup.
The area is also increasingly popular for its natural surroundings — jungle trails, stream-side spots and small farms that grow chillies, herbs and highland vegetables. It pairs well with a visit to nearby strawberry farms and the Kea Farm market.
Local Food Scene
Authentic Malay kampung food at everyday prices — no tourist premiums here.
Local Malay Food Stalls
Affordable nasi lemak, fried chicken, mee goreng and Malay kuih served fresh each morning. Community-run, no tourist pricing.
Small Farms & Gardens
Chilli gardens, herb plots and vegetable farms run by local families. Some allow visitors to purchase directly or pick their own produce.
Jungle Trails & Streams
Natural paths behind the village lead into the highland forest. Cool, shaded and a world away from tourist spots — ideal for a quiet morning walk.
Community Spaces
Mosques, community halls and open spaces give Taman Sedia its living-village feel. During Ramadan and Hari Raya, the area is especially vibrant.
Community & Culture
A living, breathing Malay village with 60+ years of highland history.
History & Heritage
Established in 1959, Taman Sedia predates much of Cameron Highlands' commercial development. The original Malay families who settled here came to farm highland land and build a community around the mosque and local school. That founding spirit remains visible today in the tight-knit community life.
Accessibility & Practicalities
Taman Sedia is easily missed if you drive straight through on Route 59. Slow down, look for the community signage and turn in — you'll find parking space and a noticeably calmer atmosphere than the main commercial strips.
Visitor Tips
Best Time to Visit
Mornings are best when local stalls are freshest. Arrive before 9am for nasi lemak and fresh kuih. Weekends see more activity with informal pasar pagi setups.
Getting There
Taman Sedia is on the main Route 59 between Tanah Rata and Brinchang. Look for the turn-off clearly marked on Google Maps. Parking is available along the main road.
What to Buy
Pick up fresh highland vegetables, chillies and herbs directly from small farm plots. Prices are often lower than Kea Farm market because you're buying closer to the source.
Local Etiquette
As a Malay Muslim kampung, dress modestly when visiting. Greet locals with a smile — the community is welcoming to respectful visitors.
Combine With Nearby Spots
Pair your Taman Sedia visit with Kea Farm market (5 minutes north) and Abang Strawberry Farm for a full local highland morning.
Accommodation
A handful of homestay operators in Taman Sedia offer budget-friendly rooms. Staying here gives you a genuine feel for highland kampung life rather than a hotel experience.
