Cameron Highlands is a beautiful and diverse province of Malaysia, perfect for a relaxing getaway, where you will have the chance to see rural rolling hills, but also visit some of the popular tourist sites such as the butterfly farm, as well as trying new and exotic food. Malaysia is home to fragrant and ethnic food. One dish which the Cameron Highlands is known for is the Hot Pot. A gas fire boils a pot of chicken soup or chilli broth for more of a kick. These are two relatively easy dishes to make, so if you are thinking of hosting a dinner party and are online, playing Party poker and sending invites while looking up unusual recipes, why not also consider some of the rice and noodle based dishes which are much more hearty and substantial. Rice is a staple food in this region, typically having a rich and fragrant scent. A traditional rice based dish is Nasi lemak. This is where boiled rice is steamed with creamy coconut milk, making it sticky and rich. This is served with anchovies, cucumber, peanuts, eggs and a spicy paste called sambal. In Malaysia, it is a traditional breakfast dish, but due to its versatility, it is often served all day. Other foods you are likely to find in Malaysia include Apam balik, which is a sweet bread coated in sugar with a coarse nut in the middle. The speciality of the state Keropok lekor, is the Keropok lekor. This consists of fresh fish which is coated in batter and served with spicy sauce. There is no real demand for desserts in Malaysia, instead, much fruit is grown which is normally consumed after a meal. The durian is a local tropical fruit, with a spiky outer shell. It is known as the 'King of the Fruits' because people either love it or loathe it. On the other hand, the 'Queen of the Fruit' is the mangosteen which has a history of use in old folk medicines. The lychee fruit is also common in this region and it is used to make tea. |
