Hiking by foot to Cameron Highland - 2008/07/19 05:52 Hello to all Cameron Highland enthusiasts.
In 2005, I had the opportunity to join a small group of 10 friends where we hiked by foot from Gopeng to Tanah Rata via Gunung Riul trail. This is serious jungle trekking guided by our good local Orang Asli friend. The trip took 2 days and 1 night to reach the orang asli settlement in Tanah Rata. (Starts at 8am day 1 and reach the top at 6pm day 2).
It is not a trip for the weak as there is hardly any jungle paths and plenty of steep trek climbings, rivers crossings, leeches, insects and foliages that are fantastically huge compared to what we have seen before. Our overnight stay was at a Orang Asli settlement long house beyond reach of any vehicles. The place is unbelievably remote and the air smells sweet all the time. No signs of any pollutions at all. I must admit that I was not really fit at that time and the whole journey was torturous. Now looking back, I treasured the adventure and the fond memories that I had of this trip. Crazy enough, shall make a second trip and hoping this time I shall be better prepared.
